The Hopkins Center for the Arts depends on the expertise, skills, knowledge and time of volunteers. Volunteers help at single events or make a longer-term commitment by serving on the a committee or on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Hopkins Center for the Arts.

May Day at the HCA - MAY 5
About the event: Help HCA welcome spring at the Center’s MAY DAY event to raise funds to support arts programming at the Center. This open house features gardening & floral demos & workshops; fresh spring fashions; and a Silent Auction. This event is presented by the Friends of Hopkins Center for the Arts and coordinated with Girls On The Town.
Volunteer Needs: Volunteers are needed to set up event on Friday, May 4 and during event Saturday, May 5.
Donate:An item to the Silent Auction (gardening tools, accessories, gift card, floral-themed art, etc.)
New Season Preview & Ticket Sale - MAY 12
About the event: Concert goers are invited to purchase 2012-2013 Season tickets at a discount rate and enter a drawing to win free concert tickets.
Volunteer Needs: 3 Sales Assistants needed to help patrons with ticket sales and 2 hospitality volunteers.
"Velocity 2: The Art of Motion" Opening Gala - JUNE 30
About the event: Celebrate the best in automotive art by artists from across the U.S. at the opening gala for "Velocity 2: The Art of Motion," which will include an invitational car show, blind wine auction and more.
Volunteer Needs: Gala reception will require help with registration, hospitality, and wine auction on June 30.

Hopkins Arts Festival - JULY 7 & 8
About the event: Support HCA at the fourth annual Hopkins Arts Festival which includes a fine art fair, musical entertainment, and creative activities that draw over 10,000 participants. The festival is presented by the Friends of the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
Volunteer Needs: Volunteers are needed Friday, July 6 - Sunday, July 8.
Become a Patron: Join the Patron Program, be a part of an elite group of supporters who enjoy unique opportunities to interact with festival artists.
Hopkins on Tap - NOVEMBER 10
About the event: It’s all about the beer……a fun-filled fundraiser to support arts programming at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
Volunteer Needs: Planning will commence in August for this new fundraiser—get in on the ground floor.
committee service opportunities
Visual Arts Advisory Committee
Commitment:
- One-year term (limit of 5 consecutive terms)
- Attend 5 out of 6 scheduled meetings during a season (second Monday of the month, 5pm; August, October, December, February, April, June)
Responsibilities:
- to develop an annual calendar of visual arts exhibitions and activities
- to oversee two members' group exhibitions each year (one juried, one open)
- to seek out innovative ways to tie exhibitions into other activities at the Cneter and to collaborate with other organizations
- to serve as the selection committee for exhibitions and review all proposals
- to develop and implmenet educational programs in the visual arts
- to explore ways to incorporate visual arts throughout the Center
Exhibition Principles:
- to provide exhibition opportunities in all media
- to provide exhibition opportunities to both emerging and established artists with specific emphasis on community
- to provide a supportive and educational environment for artists
- to provide the community with intergenerational, multi-cultural and diverse exhibitions
- to assist in promoting the Hopkins Center for the Arts
- to create a financially sustainable exhibition program
Fundraising Committee
Purpose:
To aid the Board of the Friends in ensuring that there are adequate resources to support both the operations of the nonprofit Friends and programmatic goals of the Center
Key Tasks:
- Presents an annual fund raising campaign plan to the Board of the Friends and oversees fund raising efforts
- Keeps the Board apprised of fund raising progress
- Plans and executes fundraising events, including the annual Hopkins Arts Festival
- Cultivates potential sources of contributed support as well as encourages the creation of sustainable revenue programs with growth potential such as memberships, sales and entrepreneurial efforts
Commitment:
- Meets monthly (note: the Hopkins Arts Festival has several subcommittees that determine their own meeting schedules. For more information on these subcommittees call 952-979-1100, ext 0.)
- One-year term
- Estimated time commitment of 3 hours/month
Board of Directors of the Friends of Hopkins Center for the Arts
Term: 2 years (maximum 2 consecutive terms)
Board members jointly fulfill the following five roles and responsibilities:
- TRUSTEE (holds fiduciary responsibility; has the responsibility of stewardship, seeing the organization's assets used for the greatest good in serving the mission)
- SPONSOR (ensures there are adequate resources to support both operations of the nonprofit Friends and programmatic goals of the Center by making by making a personal financial commitment to the organization and encouraging others to do so; jointly and as individuals, lend their name and reputation in support)
- ADVOCATE (works to enhance the organization's public image; advocates for the broader arts community; acknowledges the benefits of the arts to the community)
- GOVERNOR (determines the organization's missions and bylaws and ensures that programs and services address that mission; helps evaluate senior staff person; ensures effective organizational planning; sets policy)
- PARTICIPANT (attends activities and events; contributes time to serve the organization)
Commitment Required
- Commits an average of 6 hours per month
- Misses no more than 3 regularly scheduled monthly meetings each year
- Serves on at least one committee
- Joins the membership program and contributes to the annual campaign
- Actively demonstrates commitment to the organization, the arts and to the community

If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors for the Friends, please call 952-979-1100 (ext 0) to request a board application form. Upon receipt of the completed application, someone from the current board will contact you. Board terms start on July 1 of each year and must be approved by a vote of the Board of Directors.
